Power Less. Achieve More.|Commercial Refrigeration Case Study
For manufacturers targeting the European commercial refrigeration market, regulatory compliance is a fundamental requirement for market access.
To help you quickly understand the key requirements, we have summarized the most relevant regulations, including ErP requirements, Minimum
Energy Performance Standards (MEPS), and Energy Labelling requirements. This overview provides a quick reference for product development and compliance planning in the European market.
This case study is based on the specifications of X-FAN AC and EC fans. Under the same operating speed conditions,
the potential energy savings and energy-efficiency improvements achieved by replacing AC fans with EC fans are evaluated.
Note: The results are based on simulation estimates. Actual performance may vary depending on equipment design and operating conditions.
Using X-FAN 120 × 120 × 38 mm fans operating at the same speed as an example (specifications shown above), the AC fan consumes 24 W, while the EC fan requires only 5.66 W to achieve comparable airflow performance, significantly reducing fan power consumption.

Simulation results indicate that replacing the AC fan with an EC fan under the same operating conditions can reduce the annual energy consumption of the beverage cooler from 532.90 kWh/a to 291.91 kWh/a. This represents annual energy savings of approximately 240.99 kWh and an overall reduction in energy consumption of approximately 45.2%.
In addition, the appliance's Energy Efficiency Index (EEI) is estimated to improve significantly, with the energy class improving from E to C.
This improvement highlights the potential of EC fans to reduce energy consumption, improve energy efficiency, and support compliance with EU energy-efficiency requirements
In the original configuration, the fan motors accounted for approximately 59.2% of the beverage cooler's total energy consumption, making them one of the major energy-consuming components.
After replacing the AC fans with EC fans, the fan share of total energy consumption is estimated to decrease to approximately 25.3%, significantly reducing overall energy consumption and improving energy efficiency.
Implementing EC fans can significantly reduce energy consumption while improving the Energy Efficiency Index (EEI) and overall energy class performance. For commercial refrigeration equipment manufacturers, this means lower operating costs, improved compliance with energy-efficiency requirements, and greater market competitiveness.
